    2019 Yeti Sb 4.5 Rumors

Does anyone have any info yet or rumors?

I am thinking about pulling the trigger on a 2018 yeti sb4.5 ; but don't want to be disappointed if a completely revised version drops soon. Should I just say F it and buy the 2018 now anyway??

I am torn between a 2018 sb4.5 and a 2018 rocky mountain instinct. The geo of the instinct feels a bit more relaxed/capable. The 4.5 feels faster and snappier ( which I like). But I did not get a chance to compare downhill prowess between the two (in chunky terrain, only smooth stuff). The 4.5 was the better/faster climber. maybe a little nod to the instinct on descending.

This will be my one bike quiver. I just sold a carbon xc race bike and a carbon enduro bike. To simplify down to one super bike to do it all. I live in Aspen.

I am surprised the 5.5 builds come out only 1 lb heavier then the 4.5 according to the yeti website.

I may need to make a trip to yeti headquarters to do some more demoing.

Thanks for any input or rumors. Please help!

I'd be more disappointed about missing the next 5 months of riding! Will Yeti update the 45? Probably. This year? Almost certainly not, the SB100 just came out a few weeks ago! If you're worried about next years models already you're probably not a good candidate for a one bike quiver. All the bikes you mentioned are awesome. Trying to split hairs all the time to find the perfect bike will probably make the whole biking experience less enjoyable overall. Good luck!

I would go with the 2018 SB4.5, I rode my 4.5 at the 2016 Snowmass EWS and it was completely capable both up and down.

How is your 4.5 built? stock or beefed up?

I did at one time; but I no longer do. I Just want a do it all trail bike; that climbs like an xc bike; and descends like a trail bike. I ride some technical terrain but I ride that kind of terrain at what i would call intermediate speeds. Most of my riding is fairly smooth with lots of climbing. I do ride moab/ fruita many times per year.

I would be considering a bling build with carbon wheel upgrade.

    Appreciate the feedback friends.

Im.currently finishing up a custom 2017 sb45c frame up build. Its very versatile bile to build. I'm 6'4 and #215 no gear. I bought it to compliment my sb6c.

Pike for the 35mm stanchions ( luftkappe installed) vs Fox 34.
Monarch plus for more oil volume (vorsprung tuned)
Sb55c stock rims for wider rime profile
    Maxxiss dhf2.5wt/2.3 aggressor.
This will be my trail build.

I can also male a more xc build, with it. Swap back fox evol shock, lighter wheelset and tires...

Buy the 2018 and enjoy it. Better is always coming but it's ride season now!

In my humble opinion the SB5 LR is the one super bike that does it all, having a blast on mine* - check that out as well...

Have to concur. My '18 SB5 LR has been a complete blast - hands down one of the raddest 'quiver of one' bikes I've owned. Don't miss my 29er Following one bit. Currently I have the stock LunchRide build kit but will likely install a 2.5WT rear tire of sorts as summer winds on and things get looser...

I'd love to see a new SB140 to replace the SB5. 66° HTA, 75° STA, 150mm fork, DPX2, 460mm reach in L, room for 2.6, and a threaded BB. Anyone listening?

Subscribed...b/c I rode the 4.5 this weekend...and: amazing. Climbed, descended, big hits, small bumps...it's was just really good at everything (and exceptional at climbing...better than any other bike in it's class that I rode...by a lot).

The best way I can describe it is: It was super easy to get up to speed. And it likes to go fast...and when going fast it makes you smile...which makes you try to go faster...which makes you smile more...which makes you go faster...etc. It was just a really fun bike to ride.

But: As a human with ape arms, I need a bit more reach. If the XL was 50 (or near there), I'd be in. 120 rear wouldn't hurt either.

Is that a Lyrik or a Pike? I'm planning on the swapping out my Fox suspension for the same setup. I'm thinking Pike.

Sb 4.5 is being g discontinued for 2019. They are replacing it with a new model. Essentially a bit more travel to make it more different from sb100. Which makes sense from a product portfolio point of view.
I too was keen to pull the trigger on a 4.5, but I'm going to wait and get the new version (it's something in between the sb5 and sb100...)

Where'd you get that info? I'm trying really hard to wait for Yeti to come out with exactly what you are talking about. I expect the SB4.5 will become the SB120.

From my LBS, the new bike is coming out in September. Apparently they will have a demo late September.

That's awesome, hope it ends up being true. I've demo'd the 4.5 and loved it but would really like to see 120 in the rear and a steeper SA.

that would be good but wasn’t the case with the redesigned sb5 or the new sb100, yeti seems to be keeping reach short compared to current geo trends

Its true SB4.5 is moving up travel and the SB5.5 is moving to 160ish travel. Both are supposed to drop in the next few weeks.

They stopped making 5.5's a few months back.

Obvious updates to expect would be shortened seat tube, internal sleeved cable routing, and probably room for a water bottle. .

I have heard that the water bottle thing actually cost Yeti sales and they are putting one in the main triangle. We will see what happens, but i heard we might get a release this week.

I would think this is coming aka long travel 29.
Look at the popularity of the Wreck (SI would be a better climber), firebird 29, Enduro, and others.. The market is a buzz with that kinda 29er. It would also push the envelope and make room for the revised sb45c and distinguish the sb100 even more on the opposite end of then29er line up..

There are a few obscure shops using threaded BB's...like a company called Ibis, one named Santa Cruz, and some folks under the name of Specialized are using them too...among others

I would like to see the bike built/geo with a 140 frt and a 150 frt lunch ride option to slacken it further if wanted. If not I feel this bike will be way too close to the updated future 5.5 and not enough middle ground between the SB100.

Did you get that info from your "reputable source" as well?

I'm sure the only reason they use pf92 is because the engineers at the factory in Vietnam are using pf92 on other brand they produce. Trek being a giant is essentially the same thing.

You misspelled "Golden, Colorado: Foot of the Rocky Mountains, USA".

Key word there being "engineer". The bikes are manufactured in Asia, but all of the engineering is done in Colorado.
