Where are the American women? (DH WC)

I am admittedly slow on the uptake here because I pay more attention to EWS and XC than downhill, but watching the final today had me like and I couldn't find any explanations online.

Why aren't there any American women racing World Cup downhill? What's the story?

USA Junior Women did very well

    Anna Newkirk placed 2nd
USA also place 7th and 9th

I think the US did very well. Not sure why the elite women did not qualify for the finals

Rachael Atherton was on fire again. Canada's Miranda Miller couldn't crack the podium placed 18th

Yeah, should have been more clear, asking about Elite Women's class specifically.

There weren't even any American women on the qualifying start lists.

I'm assuming it's just a points thing, but it seems really strange that there aren't *any* who can make it to qualifying. It looks like Caroline Washam is the only American elite woman with a WC finish this year.

Lack of sponsor support? USAC support? Have we just had a slow introduction to the sport at the competitive level in this country?

Super awesome that the junior women did well. Maybe we just need to wait a couple years...

Kat Sweet has Sweetlines Jr Racing (her developmental DH junior women's team) doing phenomenal. Be patient

Yeah there are a lot of amazing junior riders coming up; Knolly and Commencal have good support programs and I'm sure there are more.

But as for current riders--is it just lack of development and team support 10 years ago, or something more recent going on?
