    I Need a New Seat

Iím looking for a new saddle! My current saddle isnít as comfy as it used to be. Itís a Specialized of some sort, menís, and has very little padding. Itís a 143 width. I used it all last summer and all winter, but would like something with just a little more padding. I do not wear padded shorts. I find that they just spread the pressure out and make everything hurt more and I canít stand wearing a big, sweaty pad between my legs. I prefer to just find a seat that fits. My sit bone width is 123 mm. So far (aside from stock seats on my Liv, and on Norco Bigfoot and Torrents), I have tried the Specialized Mimic in both the 155 and 143 widths. I would say the 155 was marginally more comfortable on my sit bone area. I absolutely love how short the seats are and would really like to find another short seat. The padding was perfect as well. Both widths literally gave me blisters in the crease between my leg and butt cheek, out further than where a chamois would sit. What should I try next?

I use the Eragon SM womanís seat. Not all Chamois are the same there is some really thin ones out there. Takes some trial and error. I rarely like the default ones that come with shorts. But if your not going to use them watch out for Seams with whatever your wearing.

I might try the Bontrager Aeolous, someone recommended it to me. It is short and comes in 145/155. It comes in 3 different price/cushion levels. As with many brands, the priciest/lightest one has minimal cushioning. If I try it, I'll get the mid level (Elite) model. You can return within 30 days if not satisfied.

A seat that has more padding than what you have can be similar to wearing padded shorts. The padding from the seat has to go someplace, which could also cause discomfort.

That looks nice! Let us know how it is.

I tried the Specialized Power Arc in both widths as well and didn't like them either.

I ended up settling on the Fabric Scoop for now. It's ok. It's about an inch shorter than my older seat but not as short as I would like it to be. It's also got a little more padding but doesn't chafe in weird places. I only paid $55 CAD on sale for it so when I find the perfect one, it won't have been a big waste.

You need a saddle with a sharper transition in the area between the sitting area and the neck of the saddle. That is what causes irritation in those creases.

Picture a T, and Picture a Pear, the Pear has a gradual, wedge-shape transition from large to small area compared to the T, so there is more friction.

Here is something, the Mimic refers to the saddle being constructed with a channel rather than a cutout--Mimic Technology. It's not the name. Was it a Specialized Power with Mimic? Those are very short (I have one on my Surly). https://www.specialized.com/us/en/sh...y%3AMimic&text=

I've used the Specialized Romin/Oura on my roadbikes for years. Not 100% happy with the Power (the Romin was a big NO on a mountainbike, I tried). A thought: The SQ Labs saddles look interesting. I haven't tried them yet, though.

FWIW I just picked up a Bontrager Evoke RL on a whim and I REALLY like it. Flat horizontally and vertically, just the right amount of squish, no hole in the middle to blow mud into my crotch on those wet rides, but a 'bit pit' still in just the right spot.
