Help deciding on a MTB Vacay

    Hello all,

i'm cold and wet in Afghanistan but daydreaming of my next MTB vacay. it's what's keeping me going. I get out of here in June and am stationed in Germany.

For right now, I've already booked 7 days of riding in Croatia/Slovenia and a diving vacation in Gozo Malta where I'll bringing my travel MTB hardtail.

I want to squeeze in another week of riding and am torn between 3.

So I'm just taking a poll. Which would you pick? (just pick which would be more appealing. you don't have to have been to these places.)

    1. Scotland

    2. Romania

    or

    3. Greece

i've been working out. hopefully, i'll be in riding shape by this summer without the saddle time I'm missing out on being here.

    Thanks in advance, d

Out of those three choices, I'd pick Scotland too. Not only great mountain biking but nice folks and good beer and whiskey

You already have one awesome trip planned: Croatia and Slovenia (on my list of places to ride one day).

Scotland definitely for me. I am going to go here http://www.clachaig.com/ one of these days. A friend of mine from high school (in England, not the States) runs it with his family. He is a big -time mountainbiker and can steer you in a good direction. His inn is here in the middle of the highlands. Oh i can't wait to go! http://www.glencoescotland.com/
Have a great time when you go , wherever it may be, and take care over there in Afgahnistan!

I spent some time in Romania waiting to fly into Iraq back in 2003. It's a beautiful, beautiful country, at least around Constanta & the Black Sea ... but it is poor, they had a horrible dictator there about 20-30 years ago, and the country is still depressed from what I saw. I would love to go back - everyone was nice and it's a wild place - but if you're on vacation from Afg. you may want to try some where a bit more cheerful, unless you're in a poetic, stark kind of mood : )
I don;t know how the riding was there, but I imagine it's wonderful. There are horse carts a lot, I think a gypsy population is still strong, or that's where a lot of the roots came from. An interesting place, and Cheap, but I would think Scotland for a but more civilization and luxury during time off from war.
    Good luck!

Turkey is cool too... and Greece will be Warmer & dryer! I spent a year in Turkey - it's a beautiful, cross-culture land. western Turkey has fascinating landscapes! I think I change my mind to Greece, but there's so much political unrest & their economy is bust? I dunno, hard question!
Greece has the Mediterranean Sea ... warm!
