Help for 13yr olds next ride. Thinking of getting her on a 29er....

    Hey,

It's new bike time and needing some advice. My daughter is 13 and 5'7. The past couple of years she has been on a Liv Tempt 27.5(S) and its time to get her into a FS bike. She's a fairly capable rider, not a sender by any means. She rides the trails with me twice a week, but I generally stick to the easier routes for now (Southern California trails )

The big question is should we jump up to a 29er. I ride 29 now (Yeti) and love them for all the known benefits. I'm not going crazy on the price point for this bike. Probably sticking to the $2500 and below, so that limits the choices to probably Giant and Liv. She also will need to jump up a frame size to a Medium.

She's starting to get serious about riding so I want this bike to be one that is going to last for awhile. Is now the time to make the jump?

    Thanks in advance.

Is there any way she can ride your Yeti?
I suppose it's obvious that it would be best if she could get on some 29ers as demos.

She can't ride mine, Its a XL. She has hopped on it before and that was fun to watch.

Yeah, I think we might be picking up a demo next week. My fear is that she might not feel in her comfort zone and say I like what I had. Probably the best bet is to pick up a FS 27.5 and 29er for demo

A few years ago, I hated 29ers, but they've come a long way and I own one now. But, 27.5's have also advanced. I'd be inclined to put 90+% of the weight on what she likes.
Also, the weight of the bike might be more important for a 90 pounder than it is for an old fat guy....not you, me.
