Can we talk helmets? When I first started mtn biking in the early 2000's, I bought a $40 Giro helmet that fit well and VENTILATED well. I have since bought 2 Troy Lee helmets and a Bontrager and none of these seem to cool my head the way that Giro did. I'm thinking I need to get a road helmet this time around.I am a slow rider so, a lot of helmets that say they have 22 vents and are cool, aren't cool enough. I don't really want to break the bank either so, does anyone have any recommendations?

Anyone else using a road helmet for their mtn biking?

I don't use a road helmet personally. I'm extremely happy with my Bell Sixer, I'm in Australia and have been wearing it this past summer; impressive ventilation and build quality.

I like the extra coverage/protection of a MTB helmet, and also like the visor as my eyes are sensitive to sunlight. A lighter color helmet will be cooler in any unshaded areas, the black helmets are not appealing to me. If you compare 2 models, the lighter weight one will likely also feel cooler.

I use Smith helmets, and feel like they have great ventilation. Both road models I have I feel protect the back of the head better than other "road" designed ones. I've gotten most of my Smith helmets on clearance from major online stores.
