XTR Cranks FC-M970 for $333.99 at PBS

Did anyone else notice that the latest PBS catalog shows $333.99 for the new XTR cranks?!!!

I am sure it's a misprint but does anyone know if they are still honoring it?

Okay, here's the scoop. I just called. It is $339 misprint. Online chat said they would honor but had to call, so when I called they said they wouldn't honor it. It is $449.

That's lame. I am sure if you keep trying someone will get them to honor it. I would wait until the night shift comes in.

Anyway, here's a scan of the catalog page. It's on page 43 not 47. Sorry

call and make a fuss. they have to honor it. If that doesn't work, go to a retail store and get them to catalog match it. That would be easier.

How come they "have" to honor it? There is no intent to deceive. It was a misprint.

Because some people seem to think that it's a constitutional right to pay less than the sticker price

Most catalogs and ads have a disclaimer stating that they are not responsible for misprints etc...

I ordered 5 of them and they were shipped out yesterday. I also got the 25% deal over the weekend. That is such an incredible deal I can't believe it. They should show up tomorrow on my doorstep.

Hasn't Jenson or Cambria been selling an XTR set at 280ish for the past couple of weeks?

I agree, I don't think they have to honor it if they don't want to. I just tried because if it was true, I was getting one. I know ChainReac sells them all day long at $350, but come on this is like $10 cheaper.

    Got mine!

The Manager of my local Performance store honored it on Saturday morning, during their 25% points event. Went back on Sunday and got a SRAM X.9 rear derailleur for free with those Team Performance points.

970s are stronger, lighter, look better and the rings are better, also the bolt patern and spider allow a standard bash ring
also the bearing pre tension adjustment is different

If that means that Shimano has moved away from the weird special bolt pattern, that can only be a good thing!

^ ditto. I also believe the rings have a slightly longer useful life as well.

    yes and no
the bolt pattern is the same as xt, lx, etc. but someone posted that the spider has a lip that interfears with the rings. Dont know for sure but at least you can use a standard bash guard thats smaller than the big ring

I used a Saint Bashguard. Not the strongest but it's really light and really cheap. 17 bucks from my local bike shop. I did grind away the section under the crank arm for clearance. I figure once it breaks I'll just get a Salsa or Blackspire model.

I was hoping to do the same, but then I noticed on Jenson's website that they say a special ($14) set of bolts is required to mount the Saint bashguard. The darn bolts cost more than the bashguard. Anyone know if they're really necessary?

Yeah, you will need the bolts since the Saint guard has really large bolt holes.

I had no intention of buying cranks, but I couldn't pass this deal up.
