Hi I've just swapped from the standard Innova rubbish that came on mine to a Maxxis High Roller II on the front and a Maxxis Ardent Race rear still sorting best tyre pressures out. I ride average type trails with a bit of everything.

I for a few things for rigid tires. Both tires need to be high volume but in the front I look for aggressive side knob and rear I look for good center lug for traction.

You can't really go wrong with Rampage 2.35; only super slop would slow those down.

Specialized Purgatory 2.3 f/r or Purg front and Ground control rear are a good combo

Maxxis ardent 2.4 is a solid choice

Schalwbe Nobby Nic, but I prefer Hans Dampf.

Halo Choir master isn't too well known but good volume and makes a good rear tire.

Current favorite for dry, hardpack, loose over hard, and medium (SoCal conditions) is the Vee Rubber Mission 2.4. Good volume, low center knobs (which still have decent braking traction), round profile, and side knobs that surprised me with their bite. Heavy (830g), but, so far they have been durable.

Pacific NW, mud, roots, rocks, hardpack in the summer

Geax Gato 2.3 TNT Front and Rear for the wet times, run ~19 psi

Specialized Purgatory Control (2.2 rr, 2.4 fr) 2Bliss for drier times, run ~24 psi

    Mounted on Velocity Blunt 35

On-one Chunky Monkey 2.4 and Smorgasboard 2.25 (f/r), made by Maxxis and use 42a rubber on the side knobs. Super sticky and damped so there is no pogo from the tire rebound. Favorite tire so far for general use (new england), for racing...not so much. I use Ikon 2.35/2.2 front and rear for the races.

Maxxis Ikons. 2.35" up front at about 15-18psi, 2.2" out back at 23-25psi. I'm 160lbs and riding generally hard pack, maybe a little loose, trails.

FAST and comfy combo. In the fall when the leaves come down I'll put the 2.4" Ardent back on the front.
