    Recycling old tires

Every year I add a new set of tires to my alpha bike, and take those old ones and put them on my beta bike.

So that leaves me with an ever-growing stack of used tires.

I'd like to find some green solution to getting rid of them. Some of the bike shops around me sell used tires more worn than mine for $30, which I don't get as those are higher than the same new ones.

Any ideas for crafts, or handy household uses?

Belts, plant beds (stack them and fill with dirt), door protectors for your garage... donate to your LBS (one of mine takes them)

The shop carpet and doggie mat are cool.
I'm considering volunteering for a local bike collective and might donate the tires to them.
At a meeting we had discussed the liability issues of giving free bikes to people and what would happen if they became injured while using them.

Man, those are some great ideas. I have a bunch of old tires I don't want to just throw away.

I could make some entryway mats, too. Any other ideas? I tried selling the good used ones on CL, but got no bites, not even spam.

Better late than never? And I thought I had too many tires sitting around! lol
    (probably like 5 or 6)

All but mailing them somewhere on this list seem like reasonable options.

Bikes have had tires for how many years? How is this not pertinent?

If I started s thread on recycling tires, someone (most likely me) would probably whine "why didn't you do a search, first?"
