Maxxis Rekon + options... Difference between EXO+ and EXO with SS

Looking into a set of 27.5 x 2.8 Rekons and cannot find how these tires differ. Both 3C, both TR, but they have an option for one with Exo+ and one with Exo with SS which to my understanding is Silk Shield.
I thought an Exo+ tire was an Exo tire with Silk Shield?
The kicker is the weight difference.
One is 885g and the other is 950g.
The part numbers are; TB96906500 and TB00161200.
    Any insight is appreciated.

Yeah, the EXO+ has an extra layer of protection and it makes the carcass slightly stiffer. There's not a huge difference to be honest.

I'm still confused. Is the EXO+ more than just an EXO tire with SS?
If EXO+ is the same as EXO with the addition of SS (silk shield), how are they different?
    Thanks.

I just received a new Rekon+ tire (27.5) via Ebay with a casing label of "...EXO SILKSHIELD...". I assume this is the "3C/SS/EXO/TR" version that is listed on Maxxis's website with a claimed weight of 885. However, my tire weighs 945g - much closer to the EXO+ claimed weight of 950g. This suggests that this tire is a prior version of EXO+ that has simply been rebranded (perhaps to reduce the alphabet soup on the tire) and that Maxxis is trying to unload the previous branding which is why they are a good price on Ebay (got mine for $55 with free shipping). I've got the tire on the front with an older 2.35 Ikon on the rear. Nice combo. Figuring I may want to put one on the back I later ordered the same tire from the same seller and it weighs a whopping 979g. Who knows. Regardless, I like the tire!

Awesome. That's good info. Thanks for posting.
If you do end up putting it on the rear, let me know how it compares and how you like it.
