    Light-ish 29" rim questions

I'm looking into getting a wheelset built and have questions about the rim options. This is for a bike that sees mostly hilly gravel and occasional light singletrack, so ultimate strength isn't high on the list. I currently have a set of alloy Havens, which are strong and stiff, but I'd like something that doesn't weigh 1800g. I'll be running ~2.0" MTB tubeless tires, so road tubeless rims like the R90 SL won't work (already tried it). Carbon is out of the budget.

    Options:

    Stan's Crest Mk3
    DT XR 331/361
    Mavic XC 821
Race Face Arc 25 <- probably too wide, but I've had good luck with the older 24mm Easton version of this rim on another bike

    Any feedback on these? Thanks.

I think you will notice a bigger impact from tire choice and tire pressure than buying a new wheelsset for the riding you are describing. 1800g is reasonably light already for an aluminum 29er wheelset.

Of those I'd choose the Crests for sure.

Thanks for the replies. I'm using 1.95 S-works Renegades, which are already on the light end of the spectrum when it comes to tread and durability. But, they work well for the use. I also want to put the Havens on a bike that sees more off road use.

I've been leaning towards the Crests. Is there any truth to the cracky/flimsy comments that are floating around online? I'd probably do a 28h front 2 cross, 32h rear 3 cross on Hope RS4s.

I've built a few dozen and have yet to have anyone bring one back.

What is the point of Crests when there is the XR361?

Bead retention. DT still doesn't have it dialed.
