Lets talk fast XC 29er tires....

Two come to mind right away when talking fast XC/light trail 29er tires...

Ikons and Racing Ralphs. We could throw in the RoRo also, but as a daily use tire the RoRo don't last long....

What other tires can you guys think of that might give the Ikons and RaRa a run for their money?

    Here's the criteria:

-Light both RaRa and Ikons sub 600g and without sidewall protection low 500's
-Fast needs to roll fast but anything this weight typically does
-Needs to be usable for light trail/trail use, I'm not talking about strictly racing tires
-Has enough grip for everyday riding
-Needs to last at least long enough for daily use aka Non-disposable

X-kings are a great tire but out of the weight range...
Spesh Renegades I don't think have the traction to be a daily trail tire...
I do all my own stunts, but never intentionally...

They aren't mentioned much, but I ran a set of Stans Raven 29" x 2.2" for an entire summer a few years ago and they worked great on medium to hard surfaces and showed very little wear. They are tubeless ready (but not a UST spec bead) and have durable sidewalls yet still are ~550g a tire. Most judge by the looks and assume they do not have adequate traction...but that wasn't the case IME.

honestly I say you need look no further...

However, I been running a Kenda Small Block 8 in the rear with a RaRa in the front and have been pleasantly surprised with the grip of the SB8. Its perfect for hardpack and rolls super fast. 575g I think is claimed.
