I want to change the tires on my girlfriends bike to road tires.

Right now I currently have 24x1.95 mountain bike tires on the bike and I want to put a smoother road tire. How would I go about doing this? Do I have the change the inner tube? What size road tire do I buy and what is a decent in expensive tire I can put on the rim? What else can I do to the "Toys r' us" mountain bike to make it into a street bike?

You can't fit "road tires" (ie. 700C/ETRTO 622mm) to a ETRTO 559mm mountain bike rim. I assume you mean 26" and not 24". There are many different slicks you could use. Look at Continental Sport Contact and other such tires. I like Schwalbe Kojak.

I wanted to change to a smoother tire for street riding. It really a 24" not a 26".

OK. It's some kind of dirt jump/stret bike, then?

Anyways: look for a high volume street tire with small/tightly spaced knobs. I believe the Intense Microknobby comes in 24", for example. Beware that street/DJ tyres are often heavy.

If you want slicks, Schwalbe's Kojak also exists in 24"x1.50". Their Big Apple is bigger at 24"x2.0" and 2.35".

    Not cheap, I believe.

is your girlfriend actually complaining about the tires?

you should just save the money for a real bike instead of a toysrus bike.

get her a real bike instead of some walmart bike... Cannondale Quick, or some other cheap hybrid with 700c wheels.
