    contact patch

    What would be the % difference between a 27.5 vs 29 all things being equal.
    For instance, each rim has a 30mm internal width and each tire measures out at 2.5 inches wide. Also, the tires are run at the same pressure.
    To keep things simple lets assume a brand makes the exact same size gear in both sizes.
    I am interested how much more flotation the larger wheel has.

    No mathematical answer, but from experience, it's a big difference!

    If the pressure is the same then contact area is going to be the same.

    Correct. The shape of the contact patch will differ, but PSI = PSI.
