    Can I replace a 2.0 width spoke with a 1.8?

The spokes I received claimed to be 2.0 width but when I measured them they came out to 1.8.

Is there any issue with using a slightly smaller width spoke? I am mostly concerned that the treads with strip with the older nipple. This is for mountain biking.

Don't use 2mm nipples in 1.8 spokes, you will certainly end striping the treads for one or another reason.
Didn't the spokes had nipples included?

They didn't come with nipples. I only ordered a pack to fix a broken spoke.

You can use either 1.8 or 2.0mm spokes in a wheel but you have to use all the same and the correct corresponding nipples.
Don't replace one 2mm spoke with one 1.8 when the rest of the wheel has 2mm.

Check to see if they are butted...1.8 in the middle and 2.0 on the end.

Most hubs are drilled with a hole for a 2.0mm spoke.
You'll be more likely to get spoke movement using the 1.8s.
    Get the correct size spokes.
