    Boyd Quest Hub?

Is anyone familiar or had experience with the Boyd Quest hub? Looking to build a new rear 29 plus wheel, and considering this hub vs the Sram 900.

At that price point dt350 is the obvious choice. Just get those in 36pt from a german site and don't think about it much.

Sram 900s are generally well regarded hubs. Nice job sram! Boyd quests are relatively unknown, and boyd isn't so big or priced so high that i'd feel confident they're not slinging some mediocre hub with their branding.

That's not to say they're junk, i don't know. But if you're cool with buying "not superior" hubs, then look at bitex or their competitors too.

I'm not touching hub flange width/diameter/whatever. In my experience those things are important up until the moment you have to buy spokes.

Boyd was rebranding bitex hubs last I checked. Not a bad thing, but there's a lot of markup when anyone rebrands.

    If it's a 6 pawl 54pt hub, I can almost guarantee it's bitex.

I don't think the Boyd hubs are Bitex. The freehub system looks different. Regardless, I believe you will get a better warranty period with a Boyd hub then a Bitex hub.

Yep. Definitely not Bitex. They look decent. Wish they came in six bolt though. Not a fan of adapters.

While I dont have any experience with the Boyd hub, looking at the freehub, the plastic pawl retainer really concerns me. If they went with such a poor solution there, where else are they cutting corners?

I think youre better off going with either the SRAM 900s or the DT 350s. If you need the POE, go sram 900. Theyve been bulletproof for me. If 36 POE is enough, go DT swiss from a german website for roughly the same price as the 900s. From what I understand, the 54 star ratchet is still prone to failure, despite it's obscenely high price.

I ended up ordering a wheel with a Shimano XTR M9010 hub. I love the Sram 900 on the Pine Mountain, but decided I just wanted something different and a little quieter, and was less expensive.

Race Face ARC 40 Offset/Shimano XTR hub

Not sure if it is that much of an upgrade over the Bontrager entry level hub, but should be cool

That's a nice wheel at a reasonable price. It will be a great upgrade
