Best value 29er AM wheelset (sub $500)

Looking to pick up a 29er wheelset last minute birthday present for my brother. He rides a 2011 Trek/fisher HI-Fi. It has standard QR axles front and back (unfortunately). I don't have time to build something up so will have to be out-of-the-box set. Should be fairly burly (to the extent possible with that axle set up) as he rides quite hard (probably due for a beefier bike). He has a SRAM 10-speed cassette on there now.

Anyone have any link/recommendations for a full wheel-set in the $400-$500 range?

    much appreciated

check out wiggle.com or merlincycles.com they have wheelsets built on hope hubs that can be had in that range.

shipped from the UK but when I've bought from wiggle in the past the wheels arrived in California in about 5 days.

Check out the pinkbike classifieds, lots of take-off wheels for under $500. Everyone is all about the super wide carbon rims so there are some great deals to be had at that price point

Nice-- yeah these look pretty solid:

though it says rear axle is 135x9 -- I am 135x10

    I'm pretty sure that's a typo. Rear QR's are 10mm, front QR's are 9mm.

Canfield brothers makes a great set of AM 29er wheels. I am running them on my riot and like them. The hub feels great.
