26" tire recommendations: Its been a while since Ive rode...

So I got back in the game after 10 years and when I was riding the Maxxis High Rollers had dice on the sidewalls and the Swamp Thing tires had Swamp Thing there too lol.

Hell I see that they re-did the infamous Minion tire now too. Those DH cased tires were tank treads...

The riding I would do now, would be AM I guess you could say. 5' drops, some jumps, ladders, skinnies etc. Maybe even Enduro?

I can fit a 2.7 up front and a 2.5 in the back, its going on a HT Banshee Scirocco, and the wheel-set is an Azonic Outlaw.

Are the Maxxis finally true to width, or do they still run small? I know there are TONS of players in the tire game now, many many choices... Too many.

    Any suggestions, Id appreciate it!

Where are you riding? There are tons of options for DH but broadly I'd sort out the choices by terrain and weather.

If you're going to ride dual ply wire bead tires then nothing changes. If you want to run tubeless that would involve new wheels - possibly some cheap used ones.

26" is getting to be a problem for xc tire options and some trail tires. But DH is still no problem.

Hmm.. it's just trails, I don't need crazy rock protection, I run tubes as well.

    Still small.

I prefer the Minion to the High Roller but it's a sloggy, slow rolling tyre. They don't make them any more but my fave is the Specialized Clutch SX. Very grippy, rolls a bit better (though still not great) and has more progressive, even grip than the Maxxi's. I don't know what the modern equivalent to the Clutch is but I'll be looking for it when mine run out.

Thanks guys. I dont think I want to go above 2.5 on the bike. Maybe even a tad smaller on the rear, 2.35

I don't think the 2.8 is available in 26 wire bead anyway.

I would use the 2.5 Maxx grip minion dhf front and dhr 2 rear.

I do but they wear fast especially if you have granite on the trails.

I don't know if they make a new 2.7 but the one I bought measures 2.5. My 27.5 x 2.5 also measures 2.5 so I think the smallish measurement with them is a thing of the past. No tire company that I know of makes a real 2.6 or 2.7 for the 26" wheel so you have to choose 2.5 or 2.8. I have both and like both.
