Not sure how many of you outside of Edmonton would have heard about Robert Barrington Leigh in the last while....

Robert was a 20 year old honours university student at the U of T back home to visit family (live just down the block from me). Robert was last seen at about 10:30 p.m. on Sunday night, August 13th, when he left his home at 85th avenue and 98th street on his bike togo down to the Edmonton Folk Music Festival. Although he didn't have tickets to get in, it is understood that Robert was planning to view it from the outside and then head home. The festival ended about half past 11pm and at 11:30pm Robert made a text message to a friend on his cell phone. He had not been seen or heard from since.

Robert's body was found at approximately 11am on August 22, 2006 in the North Saskatchewan River near Queen Elizabeth Park.

Although I didn't know Robert personally, he did live just down the block and rode the same trails that a lot of us in Edmonton do. Please keep his family in your thoughts during this difficult time.

Also, if riding in the Queen Elizabeth Park area, keep an eye open for Robert's blue Raleigh Cliffhanger bike. It is a rigid frame and fork, and had been set up for commuting (fenders, slicks and lights). Perhaps if the bike can be found, the "how/why" questions can be answered for the family.
