Two friends and I are coming to the Vancouver/whistler area to ride for a couple weeks at the end of the summer. We're trying to do this on the extremely cheap side. Anyone know where the cheapest (preferably free) camping is that's also close to the greatest trails.

There is very little that's cheap about Vancouver. Your best best to camp for free is around Squamish (an hour away from the Shore, 40 minutes from Whistler). It should be a shorter drive, but with road construction it's hard to predict. The clearcuts up around the trails on Diamond Head are a good place to camp out.

A good route to go is to rent a small RV or camper. If you move every night, you won't get hassled and you can stay on the Shore for a while. Or ask around the boards for a driveway to park in.

Lotsof people park RV's in the parking lot in Whistler. Should be fine to do that, but with the Olympics coming up they might be pickier this summer. Still plenty of places to set up overnight nearby without having to pay for a campsite.

Setting up a campsite that you can leave for the day is sadly not an option. Your gear will get jacked for sure.
