    banff area rides

Well, spring came early to the mountains, and lots of good riding is dry and good to go.

Lake minniwanka: cleared of trees to the 16km mark, and clear of snow, dry river crossings all the way to the ghost. First few km are busy, but after the high point you are all alone with the singletrack. Do this as a one way ride from the top of the ghost lake hill, to town of banff

Stoney squaw: both upper and lower are good to go.

Rundle loop: again should be fine, The spray/goat creek side is fine, the part between the banff golf course and canmore nordic center might be a bit muddy.

    LBS for Advice and Rentals

Thanks for the update. We'll be in Banff soon for a week or so. Any suggestions for local shops where we can get trail advice and quality bike rentals?

It is with the usual great pleasure that I am letting you know that the Moraine Lake Highline Trail is now open for the 2010 mountain biking season.
The trail is almost totally free of snow now and Parks Canada's trail crew has removed the winter's fallen trees. Additionally Parks has also brush-cut small trees and bushes on either side of the trail to improve sightlines for riders and other trail users (2 and 4 legged). This was a huge amount of work and has visually opened the trail quite a bit while retaining the tight and challenging singletrack we all love so much.
And unlike Banff, Canmore and Calgary, Lake Louise has actually received very low rainfall recently and so the trail, and indeed all our trails are in stellar condition.
    Happy riding everyone!!
