Using a Shimano Tiagra front mech on my MTB?

Can this be done? I want to upgrade my drivetrain on my roadbike to Ultegra and was thinking of moving my front Tiagra mech(triple chain ring) over to my Giant NRS. Will this work? Seems it's a little lighter than my current Shimano LX front mech on my bike.
If everything fits, etc. how well will it withstand dirt?

ppl have done it. dirt is not the issue the issue is the cable routing. all road fd's are bottom pull, while there is maybe one or two manufacturers who construct their mtb's with bottom pull cable guides.

if you want to go through with it, it'll take customization of your bike
