Idea! Nylon nut for valve stem?

    Hi guys,

For those still using tubes, you know the valve nut on your tire valve? I.e. the part which secures the valve stem against the rim. Is it wise to replace it with a Nylon nut? It weighs a lot less. And any less rotational weight is a good thing. Any one know the specs?

I guess I can always take an inner tube to a hardware store...

    Uh, "a lot less"? Really?

From wiki, the Schrader valve spec says:

METRIC: 7.7 mm OD, thread root diameter is 6.9mm x 0.794 mm pitch.
IMPERIAL: 0.305" OD, thread root diameter 0.302" x 32 tpi (threads per inch)

Heh, I meant in relative terms, not absolute

    Thanks, Ardent!

The OD is ~5.75 mm fwiw.

    Edit: Calipers say 5.67mm.

Cheaper and lighter still is no nut at all. This is the way I run my mt and road bikes without the first issue.

We're talking about the little round, knurled nut, correct?
