    Custom 10 speed steup

I'm sure I read somewhere that some guys are running a custom 10 speed using xt/xtr shifters with old xo 9 speed rear mechs.
Has anyone got any experience with this?

I don't think this is doable, as the new 10 speed shifters pull more cable per shift, resulting in a 9 speed derailleur (with the old cable pull ratio) moving too far.

That'll work. The new Shimano 10 spd is very very very closet to 1:1 like the old 9 spd SRAM You might have to tweak it a bit but should work.

That's what I was thinking. I've bought an xtr front shifter, just waiting for the cassette to arrive so I can get to work. I'll update ASAP.

Interested to know if it worked. I have an X0 rear that I would not mind keeping.

Yes it working fine. I bought an xtrc cassette & rear shifter. It took about 5 mins to tune up even with the fairly new 9 speed chain I have on.
All in all, it's been a very successful experiment.

9 speed chain? How'd that work? Am interested in trying an xt shifter with my xo. Any video of the shifting in the stand?
