aluminum bolt on a chris king headset

I was considering using an aluminum bolt on my headset but I was worried about the safety factor. Apparently there are people doing this without problem.

Remember to use a steel bolt first. After the stem is where you want it and tight, then swap out to an alum cap bolt.

Heck, you could leave the bolt and cap off if you wanted, as long as you installed the stem right of course. The stem is what holds everything together, not the cap bolt. Many do the same process with crank bolts.

Don't even need the steel bolt

I run mine all the time with just an alu bolt. If you are pre-loading the bearings so much that you risk stripping a alu bolt, then you are prolly binding the bearings anyway.

Like Ducky said, once installed, you don't even need it.

Ha! Actually..thats what I do it too..using the alum bolt only. Agree, as its very doable since it doesn't need to be that tight. Just figured I'd tell him the "right" way tho LOL!. Otherwise someone somewhere will end up crank'n down on that alum bolt and...
