Vancouver, WA / SW Washington trails help - week of the 4th

I'm traveling back to Vancouver next week for a family visit. I'll have just a day or two to ride. I have taken up MTB here in Iowa (of all places) and have never ridden in SW Washington. Any trails around Vancouver that you'd recommend? Closer to Vancouver the better. Also, any recommendations on LBS to check out?

    Thanks in advance!

    for the record

I did look in the "visting Washington" sticky. No info there about SW Washington trails. Any help here would be great.

    Thanks, IowaCoug

There is some good riding in Caste Rock, WA about 35mi of single track. It' is hard to find without a guide but if you call/stop by Highlander Cycle in Longview, WA they could probably give you some good directions.

    Edit: Go Cougs!

Cool man, thanks. Do you know what kind of riding the trails are - climbing, technical downhills, etc? I called Highlander Cycles and they only rent Kona 26er hardtails.

    And yes...Go Cougs!

If you can't find a guide, I'd avoid the Castle Rock trails, you will get lost for sure.

    Some others close to Vancouver...

    3 Corner Rock
    Tarbell
    Bells Mountain

    These should keep you busy.
I only ride bikes to fill the time when I'm not skiing.

Most of the rides are a bit of a drive from Vancouver. I'd suggest Siouxson Creek or Lewis River Trail. There's always Powell Butte in SE Portland if you just want to spin for an hour or so.
I've heard good things of 3 Corner Rock and Tarbell like Houseman mentioned.

Thanks for the suggestions. I won't have a lot of time...probably just about 3-4 hours in the morning - including driving time. I'm thinking Tarbell might be the one just because it's fairly close.
