Update on the Okanogan-Wenatchee and Colville Forest Plan Comments

Sept 28 marked the end of the public comment period regarding the proposed revisions of the Forest Plans for Okanogan-Wenatchee and Colville Forests. Our community responded strongly to the request for action and submitted hundreds of comments to the Forest Service, highlighting those areas of the plan that we support and those areas where we believe appropriate consideration of our quiet, low-impact recreation was not provided. That was an important part of helping to better educate the Forest Service on where we ride and what defines a quality riding experience.

That process isn't over, the plan revision is still ongoing, but it is a good reflection on mountain bikers that we had an impressive response and showed professionalism in our comments even when faced with the stress of significant potential trail losses.

Here are the comments that Evergreen and IMBA submitted on behalf of our followers for the Okanogan-Wenatchee and Colville.

Evergreen also helped formulate and signed the comments of the Outdoor Alliance, a national coalition of human powered recreation groups, for the Okanogan-Wenatchee. You can see those comments here.

And congratulations to the winners of our raffle for cc'ing us in your comments or Liking the Facebook posting. Cory won a $50 gift certificate courtesy of Bicycles West, while Brian and John each won Platypus Origins 3 hydration packs donated by Cascade Designs.

Those are two extremely well written letters. Big thanks for your efforts on this.

THANK YOU for your efforts, you letters, and for giving us the opportunity to chime in when it was needed most. I have such a hard time trying to figure out what's going on with all of this stuff... getting the 'Cliff Notes' version plus when, how, and who to respond to is wonderful.

It's great to hear we had hundreds of people taking the time to write letters. Certainly the "behind the scenes" wrangling is key, but the participation of mt. bikers to speak their voice in numbers is absolutely integral.
Determined leadership through Evergreen, i wish to thank Glenn for his work in finally establishing paid staff in Brian and Chris to help coordinate work parties, many of them on our Forest Service Lands.

Many people profess loving trails, well persons who show up to work parties and write letters are proving it. Each person who takes the time to raise their hand to say, this trail matters enough to me i'm willing to take a day to shovel dirt or write a letter, this stuff raises eyebrows.

Support for Evergreen should manifest itself into infrastructure where mt. bikers are better able to have the opportunity to send this message. Under Glenns tenure this ability is expanding, the call is up to us as mt. bikers to take advantage of these opportunities, so the future of this sport/recreation we all appreciate, can really flourish.
