I live in that area, I'll keep an eye out when I'm walking my dogs. I had a similar theft of my bike last year, been bringing them inside ever since. Also worth mentioning that I insure my bikes separate from my renter's insurance. Covers the full retail amount, no deductible, and claims don't effect my premium. Every company is different, but most have $$$ limits to what's covered as personal property under homeowners/renters policies.

Do you go through a separate insurance company? Or just a separate policy through your same company?

Same company, I just have my bikes scheduled separately. Also some of my wife's jewelry. Renter's and homeowner's policies generally have a pretty low limit as to what they cover under theft so high dollar items should be scheduled separately to ensure they're covered in the event of a loss. It costs extra and likely varies depending on what the item is and how much it costs, but it's worth it IMHO.

My apt complex did the same "not our fault" nonsense and the police weren't much better. I know stolen bikes aren't high on their list of priorities but it took 3 days to get an officer to come out and create a police report, which I needed to finalize the insurance stuff.

It's probably a long shot, but check out @GetYourBikeBack. It's run by SPD and maybe it'll pop up. Also, Search Tempest will let you search multiple cities on Craigslist.

    Pics are key!

I had my 1990's metallic orange Diamondback V-link stolen from our "secure" building on Capitol Hill twice in five years. The first time I had good clear Polaroids, the SPD posted them on their bulletin board and the perp was nabbed hours later.

The bike wasn't the same after I got it back so the second time around, I didn't bother going to the police.
