OKingCo Ride: Esmeralda Basin/DeRoux Trail Saturday, july 25

    Esmeralda/Gallagher Head Lake/DeRoux
Another classic OKingCo ride set for Saturday, July 25th. This one is located in the very north end of the North Teanaway Mtns outside of Clem Elum. The ride starts with a single track climb that quickly gets us above tree line and up to a saddle with good views of the Enchantment Mountains. We then head down a fun, challenging, and switchbacky descent that will test your downhill skills. This drops us onto a jeep road that's known as the jeep climb from hell up to Gallagher Head Lake. Don't worry, it's short but oh so steep. Rumor is folks used to be able to clear it without dabbing but I don't know. We then lunch and swim at Gallagher Head Lake and head down the DeRoux trail which is one rocking descent. Sign up and more info is on the Evergreen Calendar.

Last time I was out there, I saw a full size Lexus SUV coming down that hill. They had gone up the day before to camp at the lake. Turned out I knew the people. Small world. This is a great ride. Anyone that's never been should try to get out there.

Agreed. One of my annual must do rides as it is short but "rides longer". Rode out of Iron Bear yesterday to be more in the shade but seriously though of this option as well. Sounds like all the blow downs are cleared.
Yes, the climb is doable out and I am one of the lucky ones who hit it just right a few years back and was able to climb out of Fortune to the lake with no dabs. Probably too loose and dry now. Bring sandals or something to wear in to the lake. Worth the extra weight for the swim.

I rode it about a week and a half ago, all of the trails are in great shape, but the first descent is starting to blow-out a bit.

If anyone knows Nolan and Mikayla (she rides for Group Health, he does all the Enduro series). They were going to ride it Sunday when we did Iron Bear plus and they may have the latest update.
