Travelling through Virginia looking for trail

Hi! I'm going on a road trip from Maine to Florida and looking for a trail along I-81 in Virginia. Any scenic ones would be ideal. I'm a beginner on single tracks but have good endurance and fine with climbing hills (I use to inline speed skate the roads near Blue Ridge Parkway near Floyd so know what to expect). I'll make sure to post my experience!

Oh man, I could list trails for days I think. Some highlights would be the Carvin's Cove network in Roanoke, the Stokesville area trails outside Harrisonburg, the Fort Valley trails south of Front Royal (which are the most technical and probably not beginner friendly) and a ton more that are on my list but I still haven't seen.

Harrisonburg is right off 81. You've got George Washington Nat'l forest, Massanutten Resort, Stokesville. These are all excellent rides.
    LOVE THE RIDE!

Can't believe I forgot Massanutten... That's a great option and super close to 81. You have the Western Slope for XC/enduro type riding and the resort slopes for lift access DH. Might be the best bang for the buck as far as best/most riding closest to 81.

If you make it to Bristol, Sugar Hollow is right off I-81 at Exit 7. It's fun and beginner friendly.
