Are there any trails for a quick ride close to I81 while we drive down to GA?

Yes. There are a bunch. Stokesville is maybe 30 min West of 81 between Harrisonburg and Staunton. Sherando lake is 15-20 min east of 81 (off I-64). When you get towards Roanoke, there are several within a few minutes of 81. Look in the Archadia/Buchanon area of VA. Take a look at MTB project. Carvins cove (Salem VA) is also very close to 81.

Seems that Carvin's Cove will be one of the stops, can you suggest a route maximizing fun? There are some interesting loops but there's nothing like local knowledge.

So far the plan is Carvin's Cove, spend the night somewhere and next morning the US Whitewater Center before leaving for GA.

Do you know of any campsites or cheap hotels near by?

I've stayed at this hotel twice, cheap and decent, short bike ride to downtown Roanoke and Soaring Ridge Brewery. Blue 5 has decent food, good beer selection and blues music.

We were just passing through last time, so kept the ride on the shorter side, but this was a good route https://ridewithgps.com/trips/9212334

I'd also recommend going down Hi Dee Hoe. Down Gauntlet to Lakeside is good too.

For Fort Valley, here are some routes, this is a favorite place of mine to ride, right off of I-81

Big and small versions of the preferred Signal Knob route

This is another favorite, just south on the Signal ridge

If you're going to be in Roanoke, and you anticipate being hungry, check out the Village Grill and/or Skratch Biscuits. I'll leave route suggestions at Carvin's to locals.

Your suggestions are like you know me, breweries and burgers are my thing

We should be around the Roanoke area around 4:00pm, earlier if we limit the stops and leave the house before 6am. Is about a 9hr drive so we want to take advantage of the afternoon to squeeze a ride in before dinner, spend the night and then leave towards NC ride the WWC before getting to GA. Will be tight on time but want to make the most out of it.

Need an address for the trail head in Carvin's Cove so we can find it with Google maps.

Jack Brown's Beer and Burger Joint for best burgers and great beers if you are in Roanoke. Just sayin'.

Will the trails at Carvins Cove be ridable late Wednesday or early Thursday?
