Trail Conditions at Carvins Cove or Douthat

Anyone ridden at Carvins Cove or Douthat the last few days. Was wondering what shape the trails are in - ice, mud?

The word is that Middle Mountain had 3-4 inches of snow last Sunday. That's all I know.

Yea Matt, I was thinking the stuff around the lake might be pretty nasty too. The Hoe trail behind the parking lot usually holds water quite a while too. Long live the Gauntlet. Most all the Mill Mountain trails are pretty good right now too, just an occasional muddy spot. Douthat could be a different story. Deeper hollows and colder. I live in that direction and still have a couple of inches of ice where the sun never reaches. Beards Mountain side of Douthat usually melts pretty quick though with the afternoon sun and might be OK.

Thanks for the replies Matt and Pisgah. Definitely a difficult time of year to ride - but got to do it anyway. Just have to research a little when you can.

I rode CC yesterday. There were some soft sections, but no significant mud. Most of the trails were dry.

I rode Douthat today on the Beard Mountain side. Brushy Hollow to Mountain Top to Mountain Side and back down Brushy. Was soft along creek at the beginning of Brushy. Walked a lot of that. Once on top it is mostly OK, still some ice on the North side of the hills - especially Mountain Side. Had to get off the bike a few times - but not too many. Got a little soft late this afternoon when some of the trails started to thaw out with the 50 degree weather. Probably be better if it freezes back or stays dry a few days. Can't say what the Middle Mountain side would be like.
