Here's a list of the main trails: MORE | Where to Ride

A lot of it depends on your location in the area and how much traffic you are willing to put up with. Also keep an eye on the weather. We've had non-stop rain since April.

If I were staying downtown or close to downtown, had access to a car and wanted to ride something "epic" without needing a guide, I would pick Fountainhead.

That's a big area, where are you gonna be more specifically?

I second Fountainhead. For a trail that's not as "epic", but still a lot of fun and much easier to get to, check out Meadowood Recreation Area south of Fort Belvoir. For the first run, do the outer loop clockwise and hit the "Yardsale" and "Boss" inner trails, which are one-way intermediate-level trails with some fun whoop de doos and jumps.

If it's still pending, I would definitely make the trip to Gambrill near Frederick, and the Watershed next door if you have time to explore. That's the best riding in the area.

All a matter of opinion. If you're after technical trails with lots and lots of rocks, then yes. If you want smoother hardpack than no.
