Middle Mountain and Brown Hollow ride (pic heavy)

Last Saturday I took a ride from Douthat State Park north to FS 125 and back. I wanted to see what had been done north of Douthat on the Alleghany Highlands Trail System (AHTS).

Not too many visitors there this time of year, except in the cabins.

    Riding along Wilson Creek.

    Good Stuff here.

    Airmail

Road up FS 125 along Wilson Creek to the north end of Middle Mountain Trail.

I usually ride this the other way to get the killer downhill at the end of Middle Mountain.
No margin of error on this trail. Going up was pretty much a push til almost the top.

    Up The Wall

Only views are through the trees.

Near the top the new Brown Hollow trail intersects Middle Mountain Trail and takes you back toward Douthat. This is a nice trail that I think the Boy Scouts hand built last summer. (Boy Scouts Rock).

The first part was pretty leafy.

Back onto a Forest Service Road.

Then onto newly dozed doubletrack behind the gate.

    Then onto mini-dozer trail.

    Which eventually becomes singletrack again.

This then dumps you onto the bottom of Salt Stump trail. The lower part of Salt Stump used to be a washed out messed. It has been rebuilt and is now fast and smooth.

Parts of the lower trails at Douthat have been rebuilt by hand and machine.

Back to Beards Gap Hollow and the truck.

This one seemed funny at the time.
