Mainer looking for riding in N. Virginia

I am stuck in Reston, VA for the weekend for work. Tried to find a rental to hit some local trails but nothing really available in my size for less than $150/day. Seems totally unreasonable considering I rented a bike for 5 days in Lake Tahoe($$$) for $350.

Looking to get out of town Sunday So asking for help finding a good area with some nice XC trails with a local shop that rents a decent bike. I don't mind driving 1-2 hours.

    Any help would be appreciated.
    Tim

Race Pace in Ellicott City MD location. They have a good selection and there great trails nearby.

If you find a bike, my first choice would be Fountainhead in Burke VA, second choice would be Schaeffer Farm and Seneca Ridge Trail in Germantown MD. Haven't ridden Patapsco near EC but I hear its good.

Tim, if you really want to be wowed and enjoy yourself I'd highly recommend leaving the city for the mountains. Head to Harrisonburg.

As a New Englander and trail geek Hburg has some of my favorite riding. Certainly some of the very best on the east coast.

Go to Massanutten western slope, make sure to hit 2000 hours and Special K (4000 hours). Some amazing trail and I always tell New Englanders to ride there because it shows whats possible when you set out to plan, design, and build an awesome MTB trail.

Or go to Stokesville and get some GW riding in. Again, Narrowback, Wolf Ridge, all good riding and a lot has been fixed with machines over the years.

Such a good intro for northeasterners to what is possible if you want it.
Don't buy upgrades; ride up grades.

Thanks to everyone. I went to Race Pace in Ellicott City to rent a Trek Top Fuel FS 29er. They sent me over to Patapsco. Great shop and trails. Had a blast.
