nice thanks for putting that together.
Not a race but looks like a good day of riding at Quantico on great trails (some never really ridden and most only ridable during events like this):

overall the race calendar looks slim compared to years past..bummed. Any one know of any USAC races that are qualifiers for nationals coming up in july at Snowshoe?

the Bootlegger's Blitz in Woolwine, VA is being held as part of the Southern Classic Mountain Series. I think the national championship race will be held there a well.

    https://www.soclassicmtb.com/

There is usually a XXC/XC race held there in August as well, called Shiners Revenge, but this one has not been announced yet. .

Wolf Bouncer. They often don't have super early notification of their dates, I think. But past races at Wakefield and Laurel Hill, in Northern Va:

Fair Hill Classic in Elkton MD. 7/8/2017. Registration should be coming online in a week or so. 6hr endurance race, 8 mile course. If it is anything like the Jamboree they had it will be a great time. I will also post a link when I hear anymore.

If you are referring to the MMM race, it was postponed due to 5 or so inches of rain. I am not sure of the reschedule date yet.

MMM has been rescheduled for 6/11. I'm sure the turnout will be down quite a bit as that conflicts with the Bedford fat tire weekend. I'm still hoping to hit MMM.

Anyone race Wed @ Wakefield? Trying to decide if I should ride 35+ or Sport. Rider times from last year seem comparable. Is the only real difference the age limit and when I think I could actually get to the start line fighting DC traffic?

I'm stuck between 45+ open or sport . . . . I've poured over last year timings, and there isn't that much difference that I could detect, either. But will probably do the earlier 45+ open so the babysitter can go home earlier. Lol.

With the super fast guys in 45+ open, I will let them gun for the holeshot.

I would have called your carpool partner a wuss. Things aren't looking bad right now the rain the day before will actually help cut the dust down and make the trails more tacky. Granted this can all change at the drop of a hat especially since I think the rain is going to be left over from Harvey. I've done this race in some of the worst weather and while it sucked at the time it is some of the races I remember the best.

    Saturday 60 % Precip. / 0.08 in
Cloudy with occasional rain showers. Thunder possible. High 67F. Winds light and variable. Chance of rain 60%.
    Saturday Night 80 % Precip. / 0.05 in

Cloudy with light rain early...then becoming partly cloudy. Low 57F. Winds light and variable. Chance of rain 80%.
    Sunday 09/03 78 | 56 F
    Sunday 10 % Precip. / 0 in

Partly cloudy. High 78F. Winds WNW at 5 to 10 mph.
    Sunday Night 10 % Precip. / 0 in

Clear skies. Low 56F. Winds light and variable.

For the SM100, would you carry two large 24 oz bottles and a 1.5 L hydration pack? Or carry less water and just refill more often at aid stations so you don't have to carry all that weight up the hills?

Looking at the weather, I could probably go for 5-6 hours with 2 large bottles and 1.5L hydration pack.

I would do 2 standard size bottles no pack and stop at the aid stations. Don't carry all that weight all day water is heavy and will drag you down on those long climbs. They actually have a bottle swap program so if you don't mind random bottles you can be in and out with new ones in less than a minute. Depending on the temp and how much water you need you can skip some Aid stations.

My typical program when in race mode (8.5hr finish) using 2 standard bottles and trying to cut stop to almost none.
Aid1 - skip it's usually cool and you won't use much water to this point.
    Aid2 - 2 bottles of Heed
Aid3 - skip as long as I have one bottle still I can make it to 4
Aid4 - 2 bottles of Heed, maybe grab some food off the table.
Aid5 - 1 bottle of water, 1 heed. Grab a slice of pizza for the road.
Aid6 - Skip finish is less than an hour of hammering!

Much thanks for chiming in! I'm now leaning toward going pack-less. As it'll be my freshman effort, I'm shooting for something a bit more plebeian - a 13 hour finish. So I figure if I scale up from what you're doing, then I think that two large bottles might do the trick with the same aid stop schedule.

I think that my posting about what to eat post-ride in the endurance xc forum morphed into a discussion about sm100...Lol.

Being a noob, I ended up with a hydration pack and pretty much used the same aid station stop schedule as dan4jeepin. Other than wishing for a 50t cog in the back instead of my 46t, a 180 mil front (and maybe even back) rotor, and more trail-walking friendly shoes, equipment was spot on. I pretty much started in the back and it was a bit of a surprise as to how much walking was involved (at least for my pace, which is more than a few hours plus dan4jeepin's race mode).

Pedaled very conservatively power output-wise in the uphills to stave off debilitating cramps by making sure I didn't exceed a certain max extended power output. I might have been a bit overly conservative. But I did cramp pretty bad when I stopped and tipped over because of a downed tree that blocked a trail.

mackdhagen did you race this year?

Me and my teamate had a good time at our slower pace. I broke a couple spokes before Aid2 and was worried if the wheel would hold out and then a flat on chestnut. Trails weren't muddy but just slick enough to give me some o crap moments. Came in 10hr 10 mins next year I think I'll be back and trying to PR.

Next up for me Thrown down in Tanktown Saturday (Montvale)

Then hopefully Hill city hootenanny (Lynchburg)
