Good job! Good News (Wilderness Plan)...

I went to the open house the forest service was having here in Richwood, WV to see if any of the proposed wilderness expansions would affect the mountain biking in the area. The forest service is promoting Alternative #2 which from what I can gather doesn't affect any of the trails in the Slatyfork area, Kennsion Mtn area, or the Canaan Valley (Davis) area.

I educated the forest service reps there about mountain biking in the area. They were suprised to found out it was so popular and we had so many trails in the area. They knew there was biking in the area, but didn't realize it was so wide spread.

The West Virginia Wilderness Colalition was there as well trying to get people to vote for Alternative #3. Which also doesn't affect any of the areas I mentioned above. The main difference between the two plan seems to be that #2 allows for more controlled burns and #3 makes more of the forest Backcountry designation.

All in all the forest service seemed conerned about taking away any trails. They decided not to affect the Kennison Mtn, Tea Creek Mtn, and Gauley Mtn area for this reason as well as the Davis area.

Hopefully our trails will be safe for a few more years.

Speaking out for Mountain State Mountain Bikers

I want to thank you for being there and bringing the use of these trails by mountain bikers to their attention. I'm not from your area however I just plain love it over there. I mountain bike the area with my kids often. That is a prime destination for us several times a year. Kennison Mtn is one of our favorite rides, however now that my Son and I have better rides We will likely hit more of the trails around the Tea Creek area. Thanks again Hecklerboy, I'm sure their awareness will make a difference, for us all, in the future.
