    Fountainhead in the rain?

I was really hoping to ride Fountainhead on Monday (and/or Wednesday!) But the weathers not looking good. How does the trail hold up to rain? Can you ride it whilst wet? Or does it need a couple of days to dry out?

You cant ride when its when its wet, it will be closed. Seems like any kind of good downpour will close FH for a few days, they are very particular about the trail. Monday may be a possibility if it dries out tomorrow, weds you may have better luck. Check the FH FB page in the morning, they will let you know if they are opened or not.

I found the FB page and it looks like they're not afraid to close it! Oh well, let's hope it drys up. Thanks.

That place doesn't hold up in the rain, it already has some pretty evident erosion. It is best if you avoid it when wet or it'll deteriorate quicker. Don't want to ruin the trail so soon!

Agreed. Based on past experience, can anyone make a guess as to whether it'll be open tomorrow?

I think it will open Monday if there's no more rain today/tonight. I rode Wakefield today and it was pretty dry.

On a related note, does anyone know which of the following gets updated first?

    1) hotline
    2) facebook page
    3) sign inside park and sign right next to entrance to trail.

I drove there at 4:30 pm on Tuesday, with the hope that they would open up for an hour before closing the entrance....but to no avail.

I'm guessing the hotline. Sometimes Facebook isn't updated early in the morning. What few dry days we've had the past week have been humid and lots of clouds, so the trail hasn't had a chance to dry. Today's rain was pretty epic, I'll be surprised if it opens tomorrow.

    Fountainhead in the rain?

Just out of curiosity I just called and their hotline was updated today but not their facebook page. I'm hoping that they open Friday afternoon....need a couple more runs before the race this weekend.

Well, I've been here for a week and it's rained every day and Fountainhead has been closed every day! I don't know how you guys who live here deal with it!!! I'd go crazy...

I'm guessing there must be other places to ride.

Ouch. Yeah, it's been a rough week. If it rains as expected today I wouldn't expect it to open tomorrow either.

To be fair we've had a very dry year, not too many rainout weekends since spring. Let's hope our luck changes because I'm going nuts also.

Oh and you can find some other trails near Fountainhead:

Laurel Hill is smooth fast single track with a few foresty loops.
Meadowwood is a nice 5 mile singletrack, I hear there are some new features there too.
Rosaryville is a great, fast 10mi singletrack loop over in MD
Wakefield is small but very fun urban singletrack. Awesome but highway noise makes it a bit less than a wilderness experience...

Thing is, all these might be open but that doesn't mean its great to ride when wet. I was at Wakefield Sunday and it was ok--a number of big puddles.

Unfortunately I'm going home tomorrow! I'm glad the trails are cared for enough to close them to be saved from damage... I'm just annoyed that I'm here for the first time in almost 6 years, have time to ride and it rains for a week straight!!!

The weather looks good at home though, so there's that!
