Deer hunt for sharpshooters in local areas Rockburn, etc

I came across this article and thought I would share it with you all. The state has hired sharpshooters to hunt deer with silenced rifles in areas we ride

The Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks has announced its fall and winter schedule for managing deer through sharpshooting. The program is intended to maintain a stable, balanced white-tail deer population on county lands where the managed hunt program is not feasible.

The sharpshooting program deploys trained personnel using accurate noise-suppressed rifles to shoot deer at night under a permit issued by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. Properties will be closed to the public during the program, which will operate from 3 p.m. to midnight.

The sharpshooting hunt will be held at Alpha Ridge Landfill on Dec. 8 and March 9.

It will be held at Blandair Park on Feb. 23 and March 3; Worthington Park on Dec. 9, Jan. 27 and March 2; Gray Rock Open Space along the Little Patuxent River on Jan. 5, 12, 20 and 26; Rockburn Branch Park on Jan. 6 and 13, and Feb. 2; Timbers at Troy Golf Course on Feb. 3 and 9; and Hollifield Station/Daniel Mill Overlook Open Space on Feb. 10, 17 and 24.

A Deer Management Reference Manual is available to homeowners and gardeners at Howard County library branches. Information is also available at howardcountymd.gov/RAP/RAP_HomePage.htm. Or 410-313-1675.

That is a common practice were public hunters can not harvest deer to thin the numbers do to the proximity to housing or other buildings or roads. The parks will be closed as stated & usually there is staff blocking entrance to the parks.
A small price to pay (not riding at the designated locations) so the deer numbers can be kept in relative check.

No worries. Just saw that QBP just picked up these new pads for such instances. <br> <img src= "https://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2007/11/03/robocop-1_6648.jpg" >
