It's surrounded by the Monongahela Nat. Forest, lots of primitive camp options https://www.fs.usda.gov/main/mnf/home

I think the nearest USFS primitive campground would be Tea Creek (nice riding there BTW) which is about 25 miles away.

If you're looking for real primitive, backcountry, no facilities camping - yes, you're in Monongahela Nat'l Forest, but most of the land within 5 miles around Snowshoe is privately owned land within the Nat'l Forest. If you're in actual National Forest public lands, then just about anyplace that's 300 feet from a road or trail is okay. It can be hard to tell where the public land is - you can try using this map:

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1P...ew?usp=sharing

That's the south half of the OLD MNF map (so some property boundaries may have changed) but you can see that the green is public lands, and the white is private.

    Good luck.
