Baltimore Area Riding for the Weekend

My girlfriend and I are coming in from New England for a wedding this Saturday. We were thinking of making it a long weekend and trying to get some riding in around Baltimore. We've heard great things about Patapsco and were hoping to check that out. Any recommendations on any routes/trails that are worth checking out?

It looks like there's a bit of rain in the area this week, considering that would it be better to bag the riding to let the trails dry out? If we decide not to ride are there any other outdoor activities we could do like hiking?

Definitely Patapsco. Can find some routes here: MTB Project | Mountain Bike Trail Maps

How many miles are you trying to get in? Are you looking for a 15mi ride or a 50mi ride? Patapsco has a lot of trails, and is hilly, so a 50mi ride is a lot to chew on unless you're in good shape, have the endurance, and bring along food. You can definitely get a fun 2-3 hr ride in 15miles or so. The more popular area is Avalon/Orange Grove/GlenArtney/Hilton (generally referred to as Avalon), but can be crowded on the weekends, so many have been hitting other areas like Woodstock on the weekends.

This is a good route in the Woodstock area: Woodstock 101, Patapsco Valley State Park | MTB Project

Here's another that starts from a different spot, goes a bit longer:

This one starts in Rockburn to hit Avalon area: Tour of Lower Patapsco (Avalon, Orange Grove, Glen Artney, and Hilton) from Rockburn, Baltimore | MTB Project

    Here's another good route:

Note that Frederick Road through historic Ellicott City is closed due to flood repair effort, so you won't be able to get through there by bike or car or foot. So the longer routes, like the Tour de Patapsco, cannot be completed without rerouting around that closure. TdP here:

Lot of rain predicted (several inches), so Patapsco will likely be out even though it has been dry. 45 min. west of Baltimore is the rocky terrain of Gambrill State Park and the Frederick Watershed that hold up much better. Gambrill is easier to navigate, but if you use open source data you can find your way around the Watershed.
