    Trying to decide on this GT Zaskar

    My original thread didn't get any responses so I'm posting the link here:

    I'd appreciate some comments on the authenticity on this bike.

    It's certainly a GT, but I don't know much beyond that. Seems like a pretty common 1990's GT to me.

    The cranks say early 90's to me. The fork, mid 90's. Get a serial and that'll tell the tale of the frame.

    I got the serial number, it's an early '94. The question is whether it's worth the $150 he's asking

    That's a good price for a zaskar. Buy it or don't I guess. If you're planning on flipping it for a ton of money probably not the bike. If you want to ride it, go for it. Assuming it's your size.

    The cranks, ders, brakes etc look like XTii (xt2) to me, correct for '91-ish. The fork looks like one of the early ones too, which would be '91/92? I don't think many bikes came with shocks that had xtii, we had to buy the shock for $400 after buying the bike, so a slightly newer shock would make perfect sense, oem shocks came slightly later.
    - dig the seat, looks comfy! I have seen other early ones where the stickers didn't last, so it may have been re-stickered. Isn't the giveaway for a real Zaskar that the end of the top tube behind the seat it flat, not rounded?
    The larger sizes had really long top tubes and a pretty short head tube, not a very comfortably or modern riding position imo, so I would not want to ride a larger one, the smaller size ones probably ride better. A race buddy of mine got a new XL in about '91/92, he was really tall and it was never very comfortable for him, but a super cool bike at the time, - I though my Kona rode better at the time.
    It also looks like the rims match, and if the spokes are double butted (a Zaskar would have come with a nice wheelset; xt hubs/db swiss spokes, allow nips, probably mavic rims). If those rims and drive-train are in good shape, it's probably a pretty low miles largely original bike.
