    Ritchey or Ritchey clone

Saw this pop up locally. Looks like a Ritchey but some things don't add up.

Never heard of a chrome Ritchey

Those rear drop outs date it to 82

Didn't think roller brakes were on Ritchey until 84-85?

Chain stays do look like legit though.

Trying to figure out if there's a gap in my knowledge

I am not an expert, but I never seen a ritchey with a fork with that crown.

Looks like a Schwinn fork, but I'm just about 100% sure the frame isn't Ritchey. Unless someone had a timber wolf specially built with suntour drop outs & center pull brakes & then chromed.

I agree pretty sweet frame though

Ask the seller to confirm the serial number, see if that jives with Ritchey's convention at the time.

The frame looks like a 1982 McKinley, based on the seat-tube reinforcement with the concentric groove at the top, and the absence of reinforcement rings on the head-tube.

My WAG is some previous owner scored a complete XC Pro gruppo with the roller-cam rear brake and had the frame modified/U-brake bosses added to the chainstays when the frame was refinished.

Seller is super cool. He checked the serial number for me. It's just 2

So I'm guessing it's obviously custom hand built in the USA circa 84 or 85 but builder is a mystery.

    Drop outs are campagnolo

Post it to the Ritchey facebook group. Some of the original builders and finishers are on there.
