Aren't Deans like a Fisher in that Mr Dean (or whomever) was just a decal installer rather than a fabricator? Not that there's anything wrong with that. I just don't know much about Dean and their operations.

I actually thought they farmed it out to Sandvik.

I don't know much about them either but I do remember thinking the decals were classy looking back in the day. I have family all over CO and I remember DEAN being the first Ti bike to really make it big in the area because it was based out of Boulder (I'm sure that wasn't the case but it seemed that way to me at the time).

The two in this thread and the two ti bikes in the catalogs on FFB all look to be Sandvik. No idea who made the steel or aluminum frames though.

Dean's been on my most wanted list for a long time, but I never thought a cross frame would show up on my local craigslist, in my size, in my favorite color!

It's been well ridden, lots of missing paint but amazingly no cracks or dents. The geometry is spot on, and even though aluminum doesn't have the same cachet as ti it's super stiff and light, perfect for racing!

    97 DEAN Bam Bam

I've got one of these and have had it as my only bike until last september. I'll post a pic when I get a chance. It served me quite well over the years.

In the scheme of things these bikes aren't a big deal, but I appreciate them. It's old, has rim brakes in the rear, and just flat out works fine. Just a Dean Colonel.

Is it really just a Sandvik frame?

Dean does actually make bikes though. I have a Dean cross bike too.
