hey GM, GT question...or anyone else

I just picked up (read...was given) a steel GT frame, stripped of paint but it used to be Sky Blue, flat GT logo on end of top tube, internal routing for rear seatstay mounted U-brake, 1 1/8" rigid fork has Canti mounts, has a GT stem like the
'flippable" one but is not "flippable". I think it's a Karakorum? 90ish? serial number starts with T9002...any ideas? I looked thru the GT thread with no luck....thanx

    pics to follow if needed..
    :)

Stan - Search the 'Official GT" thread in the vintage forum. Padre posted the exact bike you're describing. Blue, internal routing, steel frame, flat (albiet angled) GT stamped.

Pics would help. 90-92 vintage if 1-1/8". Color sounds like maybe a Tequesta.
Needed: 26.8mm XTR seatpost, blue GT/Grundig Jersey.

Look at the Tequesta in this catalog:
    http://www.mtb-kataloge.de/Bikekataloge/PDF/GT/1990.pdf
Each bicycle owned exponentially increases the probability that none is working correctly.

Doh! I didn't read the 1 1/8th fork. Yeah, it'd be newer than the one I referenced.

I am going to second the '90 Tequesta pictured on p.7 in that catalog. On some of those Nimbus paint jobs, the white was hardly noticeable, making the bike appear to be a solid powder or sky blue.

edit: Upon examination of the photographic evidence presented hereafter, I retract the above statement.

1989 Karakoram K2, or maybe an 89 Avalanche in Arctic Snowstorm. Was it a solid colored paint or did it have specks in it? Could also be a 91 Timberline in Deep Teal...1" or 1-1/8" head tube?

It looks like a later stem.

It looks just like the '90 Tequesta, but with solid paint. http://www.mtb-kataloge.de/Bikekataloge/PDF/GT/1990.pdf

So it may be another model or a 91 or so...

Here you go...look at page 27.

1993 Tequesta (blue, but not sky blue) with correct stem.

I believe the C on the dropout is just a labeling that refers to the angle of the dropout legs but am not totally sure..

No...it's not a Tequesta. Tequesta's had welded tabs at the seat clamp area.....Hoov's frame does not.

for now I'm going with the Karakoram (or maybe Avalanche?) answer....if any of you have an '89 or '90 model would you share your serial # so I can try to narrow it down? If you want to keep it private, PM me...thanx Stan

The Avalanche and the Karakoram in the pics have different stems than yours does.

Stan what's the month and year date stamped on the fork steer tube?? What is stamped on the fork steer tube for material CM/CM or HT/CM...the answer to that would decide if it's a Tequesta.

It was hard to see thru thr paint but it says.......

    top line "1989 CR-MO"

    next line "K2 25.4 X 30" (theres a sideways 0 after the 30)

    dropouts say "spinner"

    so I'm guessing 1989 Karakorum K2.....gee, I think somebody said that .
