Choosing Brake Pads for XT Chainstay Brake

    Hi all,

I recently came into possession of a 1988 Specialized Stumpjumper Comp. It has been ridden little (no measurable chain wear) but has been sitting outside for quite some time. I want to replace the brake pads with Kool-Stop salmon pads. However, I am not sure which of their pads are appropriate. It has a Shimano Deore XT U brake mounted on the chainstay.

What pads are appropriate for it? Thanks.

V brake pads will work on these.

I wouldn't even buy a set of brake pads for that bike. It's a wall decoration.

Just this week I updated a late 80's Rock Hopper with chainstay mount U brakes to 8spd with drop handlebars. It is now my Winter beater "gravel" bike. Fun project!

Thank you for the advice! That is what I went with.

I also found out both the original Specialized GX26 rims are cracked... the bike may have been ridden more than I thought haha
