    1995 ? Tequesta

Looking to rebuild my newly acquired Tequesta. I think it’s a 95. Mostly just want to update the drive train and brakes. Where to start ?

What's your goal and what's your budget?

It was a fairly low end bike to begin with. I would personally be hitting up craigslist and my garage to keep it going. You could put entirely new components on it, but IMO, that's a tough sell for a bike that's probably not even worth $100.

It’s a nostalgia thing. First mountain bike I owned was a 1993 Tequesta. Upgrading the drive train and brakes without changing the forks, frame or handlebars would be the goal. Thanks.

    Gotcha.

If you want to do era specific, you could jump on ebay and look for something like XT M730/M732 group replacements. They're still easy to find and quite a bit cheaper than XTR M900 or M950. Personally, this is the direction I would go on this type of bike. Either 3x8 or convert the crank to 1x and go 1x8.

If you want to go new, you basically can use most anything current. The caveat is you sill have rim brakes and you need to make sure you get the correct crankset and bottom bracket. Avid still makes good V brakes.

Thank you. That’s very helpful. I’m just getting back into riding and this will be one of a couple of bikes by the time I’m done.

The 1x 8 sounds interesting. Where can I find specs on my bike. Thanks again for the info.

yeah looks 95...although when they do the team scream colourway they mess with the graphics, makes 94 and 95 hard to tell apart.

Using the bikepedia link and looking at the differences in the specs makes me sure it’s a 95. Thanks. Only my 2nd day with the bike so I am just starting.

Looks awesome for a lower end bike. You have to give some kudos to GT for cool paint jobs like Team Scream right across their range.

Here's what I did with my 1995 Tequesta. Maybe not what you're looking to do? ;^)
