    Fat Bike/Winter Conditions 18/19 Thread

I was poking around looking for fat bikeable trails this weekend and thought getting a thread going would be a nice resource for us Northern New Englanders as conditions change.

Anywho, the snow mobile trails and singletrack I came across this weekend were still a bit too soft here in central Vermont. Some was certainly rideable but there will need to be more trail user traffic to pack it down. I bet it will be all dialed by next weekend.

VT is way ahead of the trend in New England for grooming and fatbiking. I expect every winter to hear about more and more places doing this.

Where are the best places to go go around the Portsmouth area? Is it basically all the same places where people mountain bike? Is any place grooming?

This idea of grooming trails and charging a reasonable fee could work out well for parks at a time of year where they don't usually generate anything.

Stratham Hill Park grooms when there is enough snow. The Rail Trail in Newfields is groomed and managed by the local snow mobile club and runs from the trail head near the country club all the way to Manchester. There are also some spots along the abandoned railway running from Portsmouth to Hampton. I am not 100% sure if that access road is still technically private property.

Thanks for the update, I was going to head there this weekend but I'll hold off until trails get more groomed/packed.

Cady Hill is mostly groomed and ready to ride; I'm going to check it out on Saturday.

Kingdom Trails opens for fat biking Dec. 10.

The Shaw Center in Northfield has limited grooming, but please don't bring your dogs. We have an official on-leash policy. Groomed surface yesterday was loose and granular. Warm up coming, after a refreeze it might get better.

I got in a good 7-8 miles at Millstone on Saturday. Trails aren't "groomed" but the VAST trails through the park are all very rideable and some singletrack has been nicely packed down by snow shoe-ers and XC skiers.

Gorham, NH has a bunch of nicely groomed singletrack trails based out of Hub North, next door to Moose Brook State Park. This crew is wicked fun and you are guaranteed a great time riding with them.
