New question here. Ventana chain stay protector question

    Ventana-nation,

Finishing the build on my 2014 Ciclon this week and need some ideas for a chain stay protector. Usually I just wrap the chainstay with either an old inner tube or parts of an old tire. Any one have any other suggestions? Yes, I know about Lizard Skins but wanted something a bit more original.

Any and all ideas are welcome. Thank you!

I use clear Racers Tape on my chains stay. I had my chain stay painted to match the frame color and hated covering up with tubes or lizard skin. It is thick and protects just as well as anything else I have ever used. I buy it by the foot at my LBS. Here is a link I found for some.

I use 3M Scotch-Seal 2229 mastic tape. It is sticky, thick, protects very well can be shaped to the chainstay tube and be replaced super easily. Highly recommended!

What width do you use and how do you use this tape? Do you wrap it around and around the chainstay from front to back, or run one piece length wise from front to back? Thanks

I used the 1 in wide tape and stuck it alongside (see photo). You can probably wrap it around but it was not necessary for me since I use a clutch derailleur and have little chain slap. If you have some heel rub on your chain stay, you can add a little section of tape on the side as well.Ventana chain stay protector question-image.jpg
