    Help pick a destination

    Hello Everyone,

The wife and I are looking at taking a few days later this year for biking. We are trying to figure out what place might be better for our ability and riding style. Here are some details followed by our choices. Any help, suggestions or comments will be greatly appreciated.

    We live in Northern California.

    1. I would say way above novice maybe a low to mid level intermediate. Can definitely handle blue trails as long as it is not too technical, flow is not a problem.

    2. Don't do big drops or jumps.

    3. Climbing is not an issue as long as its not like everest type climbing!

Choices that we are looking at are:

Downieville, Sedona, Moab or Park City

It all depends on what time of year you want to go.... for example, I wouldn't recommend Moab in August, but I certainly would say to look at Park City or somewhere in the mountains of Colorado.

Also, what type of terrain do you want to ride? Obviously the rocky, technical stuff in Moab and Sedona is light years different than the smooth, rock-less trails in Park City.

Hope you've got a good base tan if you're considering Moab in August...

Spring-Fall Moab has plenty for you- any ability. Sedona not as extensive. but easy access from town and new age, art gallery kind of place if you're into that sort of thing. Both hot in summer. Summer-Fall Park City is full of xc type trails, but some with substantial elevation gain. Sun Valley ID, has similar, but some have more back country feel than Park City. Downieville trails tend to be more rugged than Park City and Sun Valley.

If I were you I would head down to Oak Ridge OR. I live in colorado and have been to all but one of those places that you mentioned and I liked Oak Ridge the best. Plenty of trails From Alpine to McKenzie River trail system ( Bit of a farther drive away but worth it)

Moab is good but can be hot as hell late in the year unless you hit fall riding.
Sedona is my WINTER get away spot. It is OK but you spend more time climbing up ledges all day to do some steep down and then start climbing. Not many sustained down.
Park City was pretty cool but it is VERY expensive. You might as well stay in Aspen Colorado with all the movie stars for the price of a park city trip. But out of your list that is the one I would pick mainly because I have been to the other two so many times.
I have no intel or have not been to Downieville so I cannot help there

I would suggest Santa Fe, New Mexico. Many people don't realize the riding potential in this area. There are a plethora of trails that have that southwestern desert feel, as well as, many trails that make you feel like you are riding in the mountains of Colorado or Utah. These two types of trails are all within 15 miles of downtown Santa Fe. The weather is perfect late summer/early fall.
Tired of riding the same ol' trails?
